Multilple Widget Selection Window

Just wanted to check in and see if I am doing something incorrectly inside this window.

I just have a bunch of widget selected at once. I wish to delete multiple widgets in this selection. My first instinct was to just right click a widget inside the window and click delete. The surprising part is that the system then unselected all of my widgets that I had selected. I selected the group again and then attempted to Shift+Click and CTRL+Click multiple widgets at once in order to delete them, but the designer wont let me do that either.

It seems like the only way is to highlight all of the widgets, then go through the list and right click -> unselect all the ones I want to keep, and then hit the delete key? Or is the fact that the widgets are already group selected hindering/stopping the ability to then multi-select inside that window?

I would usually just shift click in the main window to get all the ones I need but they are not all visible and Shift+Clicking would put even more widgets into the window that I would then have to unselect anyways.

If this has been changed please let me know, I have tested it on vr. 12.1.29 and 12.0.56 (I am unable to update the version of the program because the update is not compatible with the current controllers)

Not sure what's happening there... It works for me on 12.1.52 and has for every version up to that. Possibly something with the mouse buttons?

You have a couple of alternatives available: Use the Delete key on the keyboard or the Cut tool from the Home ribbon.

BTW: An easier way to work with selections is to use the Layers panel.

Hello, @AndrewHarvie thanks for responding. I am sorry I should have clarified a bit better. When I said 'Multiple Widget Window" I was referencing the Layers panel (the window on the right side of the screen with the tag links tab, and Multiple Image Widget's tab) It is within the Layers window that I cannot select multiple objects within the Layers tab.

I was looking to see if I was missing a way to save some time. Would be much quicker to be able to shift+click within the layers window and rightclick+Del verses manually clicking each widget and deleting them one by one.

I am all about efficiency and saving time when developing. smile

Hey Tames,

The layer panel shows everything you have selected in the main Idea Studio page editing window. The layers panel allows you to easily select specific objets or groups where objects overlap or are not easily targeted. If you right click on an object in the layers panel, you can choose to make that the only selection or to remove it from the current selection group.

Probably difficult to really get the point by reading the paragraph above but if you make a selection of objects, look at the layers, and right click on one of the items in the layers panel; I think it will start to make sense.

Hello @ArghDave, thanks for the reply.

I will try and rephrase my situation from the first post, it is a bit hard to describe all the things happening.

If I have say 30 widgets selected (due to how the layers are it is very difficult to select just the ones I need) and wanted to delete 12 of them from the layers window. Are the current methods to do this:

  • right click one widget and select 'delete', then repeat the process of highlighting the ones I can then right click and delete.
    • not a fan of this because when I click delete the system unselects ALL of the widgets and I have to re-highlight the widgets again.
  • right click each widget I do not want, click "unselect" (x18), and then once I have the 12 widgets I want I can hit the 'delete' key on my keyboard.

I was trying to shift+click within the layers window to select a sub-group within the current selected, but I guess that function is not there?

Understood. We can certainly provide that feedback to our development team.
