Thin Client Won’t Launch from VTSX Standalone Client Following Windows 10 Update

Windows 10 update KB4056892 prevents the VTScada Internet Client (VIC) from being launched using the VTSX desktop program on client computers with that update installed. Other VTScada Thin Client formats, including those for all mobile devices, are unaffected (see work arounds below).

Microsoft is aware of this issue (see notes about CoInitializeSecurity at https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4056892/windows-10-update-kb4056892) and is currently working on a patch. We are developing our own patch and testing for other affected operating systems. Note that VTScada Thin Client Servers require no action.

Work arounds for affected Thin Client computers:

  1. Use Internet Explorer to launch the VIC in the browser.
  2. Use the VTScada Anywhere or Mobile Internet Clients.
  3. Uninstall Windows update KB4056892 and prevent it from reinstalling until a patch is available. There are lots of sites with instructions on how to do this.
