Tired of using VNC!

Ok, that went well.

Can't seem to get the excel plugin to connect. Had to upgrade Office so I'll reboot later and retry.

You need SSL on your VTScada server and have to give the user the 'Remote Data Access' privilege.

Still no joy on the excel plug-in, I followed the instructions on the ODBC driver setup and passed the test connection so it's not a networking problem.

Try connecting to our demo server. To do that:

In the VTScada tab in excel (You must have already installed the VTScada add-in to see this):

  1. Click on settings from the ribbon.
  2. Ensure 'Show Welcome Screen' is selected.
  3. Click the History button from the ribbon.
  4. Scroll down and click the 'Connect to Demo Server' box.

This will automatically set up a connection to the demo server (See manage connections for details on this) and will take you to the Tag History Query page. From here you can click add tags and, if things are working, you should see a list of tags from the demo app.

This will confirm that there are no issues such as firewall rules blocking Excel from making a connection to a VTScada server.

This is likely because the tags your looking at did not change over the period requested. If you export raw data, then you will only see values when they are logged in the historian.

You should try looking at 1 hr of 1s averages (1s averages are similar to raw data but will ensure that you get a value for each tag at each time stamp.) to start. Pump0 in the Wastewater Plant is a good one as it is typically running.

Sample Tags:
Analog tag: WasteTreatmentPlantDemo\TCPIP Port\WastewaterPlantSim\Pumps\Pump0\PumpTemp
Digital tag: WasteTreatmentPlantDemo\TCPIP Port\WastewaterPlantSim\Pumps\Pump0\PumpRunning

Note we will be updating the simulator in the future to something where all of the included tags are more active. The currently online one was developed for sales purposes where only specific tags are properly simulated. Many are static.

Hopefully, that is helpful.

Assuming this all works well for you, let's get back to troubleshooting your original issue of getting connected to your VTScada server. Did you ever get this worked out?
